"Old World" Expertise and Modern Equipment Combined with Over 25 Years of Experience
Glass Artist and Master Craftswoman, Mary Brightwell, began her career more than 25 years ago in Atlanta under the direction of Fred Austin, a master in the field of crystal restoration, at Perimeter Mall in Dunwoody. After graduating from the Women’s College of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education, Mary expanded her professional opportunities and interest in combining creativity and craft. She literally broke thru the “glass ceiling” by becoming an apprentice to the man who is often referred to as the “father of crystal restoration”.
As a student of esteemed Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass in Corning New York, Mary perfected her skills with classes taught by renowned glassworkers and artists from around the world, including Eric Hilton. Over the years, Mary has offered crystal repair services for major department stores and prestigious specialty retailers working on crystal ware made by leading manufacturers. She has demonstrated her skills at venues in Atlanta, New Orleans, Natchez, and throughout the Southeast. Mary has repaired crystal for notables including Elton John and the State of Georgia Governor’s Mansion. She was selected as the “official duster” for renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly’s exhibit, “Chihuly in the Garden” at the Atlanta Botanical Garden.
In her well-equipped workshop studio located in Woodstock, Georgia, Mary uses “old world” skills that have been passed down from generation to generation in Europe to preserve cherished family heirlooms, restore estate sale collectible finds, and insure that your holiday crystal settings are in perfect condition.
